What a crazy winter we have had with our extreme low temperatures and insane wind that has made getting to the reefs (deep sea fishing) very difficult. The last two weeks we have managed to get out a few times and it has been some awesome Tybee Island fishing. The quality of sheepshead is improving by the day, along with the number of fish caught.
Sheepshead kind of reminds me of a poor man’s grouper fishing. A little inshore rod with a sensitive tip and a 2500 series spinning reel with thirty pound braid and twenty pound mono leader is all you need. Put your crab on the small hook of your choice, shoot it to the bottom and hold on. There is nothing like hooking into a ten plus pound sheepshead and that rewarding feeling of seeing him in the net after a tug of war is priceless.
Ya’ll have a great week.
